virus-mediated perturbation of host defense response
Biological Process
Definition (GO:0019049 GONUTS page)
A process in which a virus interferes with the ability of the host to mount a defense in response to its presence. Host defenses may be induced by the presence of the virus or may be preformed (e.g. physical barriers). The host is defined as the larger of the organisms involved in a symbiotic interaction.
