A racemate consisting of equal amounts of (R,S,S,S)- and (S,R,R,R)-nebivolol hydrochloride. A cardioselective beta-blocker, it has vasodilatory activity but lacks intrinsic sympathomimetic and membrane-stabilising activity. It is used as the hydrochloride salt for the management of hypertension, and as an adjunct to standard therapy in elderly patients with stable chronic heart failure.
