Link datasets to your ORCID profile

EMBL-EBI collaborates with ORCID to allow researchers/curators to add previously deposited datasets to their ORCID profile. To get credit for data records to which you have contributed, this tool allows you to retrospectively claim datasets to your ORCID profile in a few easy steps.

Before starting

You will need your ORCID login details.

Selecting datasets to link to your ORCID

You can use the form below to search across data resources with ORCID data claiming enabled. Once you have found the datasets you wish to claim, follow these steps:

  1. Use the checkbox to select datasets you wish to claim, then use the 'Claim to ORCID' button at the top.
A search results page with the result checkbox highlighted as step one, with the 'Claim to ORCID' button labelled as step two.
  2. You will be invited to log in to ORCID and give EMBL-EBI permission to access your ORCID record if you have not already done so.
An overlay on the search results page with buttons to log in to ORCID or cancel the operation.
  3. You can then claim your dataset.
An overlay on the search results page with welcome text and buttons to claim the dataset or cancel the operation.

Search for datasets

Once the claim is complete

  1. You will see the 'Linked to your ORCID ID' tag against each record you claimed. You will also see a green 'ID' drop-down with your ORCID username on the top right of the search results page, next to the EBI logo. A search results page displaying the ORCID ID in the top-right, and a result with the 'Linked to your ORCID Badge' displayed Clicking the 'ID' drop-down allows you to click through to your ORCID account to inspect the claimed entries in the 'Works' section of your ORCID profile. There is alow a logout option, should you wish to sign out of ORCID.
  2. Change the visibility of individual items in your ORCID profile: There are three possible visibility settings for any record in ORCID: visible to everyone, trusted parties, or only me. The 'works' shown in the ORCID profile example below are marked as only being visible to trusted organisations. ORCID Portal dataset Visibility
  3. If you would like to remove a dataset from your ORCID record, you can do so within your ORCID profile - by clicking on the 'trash can' symbol in the bottom right corner of the entry you would like to remove. On the search results page, you should see the 'Linked to your ORCID ID tag disappear from all the records you have just removed from your profile.

Discover, collaborate, credit

Review the list of all datasets that have been linked to ORCID profiles and start networking with the authors/curators - the hyperlinked ORCID IDs point to the person(s) who made the claims. ORCID Discover, collaborate, credit
