Solanum lycopersicum (tomato) is a model species for both Solanaceae and fleshy fruit species. A draft genome of the "Heinz 1706" cultivar is publicly available. A highly mutagenized EMS (ethylmethane sulfonate) tomato mutant collection in the miniature cultivar Micro-Tom has been generated at the UMR Biologie du Fruit and Pathologie (BFP) from INRA Bordeaux. Among them 3500 lines have been phenotyped for plant and fruit traits. They are currently being used for the discovery of genes underlying fruit quality traits by forward genetic approaches involving whole genome sequencing. The Micro-Tom resequencing project will lead to the identification of polymorphisms between different Micro-Tom genotypes and Heinz 1706 cultivar.
