Chromosomal inversions are associated with changes in recombination rates. Because natural inversions generally contain genetic differences relative to univerted chromosomes, the effect on recombination of inversions per se is not well understood. We generated artificial inversions of difference sized in chromosome II of the fission yeast *Schizosaccharomyces pombe*. Strains with inversions of 110kb, 220kb and 1.03Mb were generated using CRISPR/Cas9 and guide repair. To verify the method and to assess if no off-target large-scale structural variants were introduced, we sequenced these strains, the untransformed strains, a positive control, as well as two natural isolates that were used in our experiments.
