Project: PRJNA272946
Dissimilatory metal reduction is a ubiquitous metabolic strategy in the deep subsurface. We recovered a novel species within the Desulfuromonas genus, D. soudanensis WTL, from anoxic brine on Level 27 (713 m depth) of the Soudan Underground Iron Mine (Soudan, Minnesota, USA). To understand its physiology and relatedness to other described metal reducers, we used PacBio long reads to assemble its genome into one circular contig. This BioProject establishes the first complete genome for any reported Desulfuromonas species.
