Our group isolated a marine bacterium from surface seawater that was initially able to grow at up to 2.75 mM copper concentrations. Sequencing of common phylogenetic marker genes identified it as a strain of Alteromonas macleodii. Sub-cultures were established from the initial isolate in which copper concentrations were increased in .25 mM increments through multiple generations. In addition to the original isolate, whole genome sequencing was performed on three of the sub-cultures following six months of repeated transfers: two grown continuously with 3 mM copper, and the third with 4 mM copper. Paired-end sequencing using the Illumina MiSeq platform was used to generate draft genomes of the four strains. Variant analyses were performed among these strains and A. macleodii strains representative of shallow and deep ecotypes.
