Spiroplasma eriocheiris CCTCC 'M 207170'. The genome of Spiroplasma eriocheiris CCTCC 'M 207170'(DSM 21848) provides additional molecular evidence for the taxonomic position of the spiroplasma, and identifies candidate genes potentially involved in its unique characters. These include a helical cytoskeleton, mobility and pathogenicity, especially in aquatic hosts. Furthermore, this genomic information will most likely facilitate the study of evolution of the family Spiroplasmaceae and its position and relationships with other families in Mollicute. Moreover, the availability of its genome should facilitate the design of new vaccines and therapeutic agents based on the identified virulence factors.
