In this research, we predicted that the gut microbial diversity would be lower in provisioned rhesus macaques than in wild rhesus macaques; food provisioning would cause the gut microbiota of the provisioned macaques to be richer in high-fat-diet bacteria; and the gut microbiota of wild rhesus macaques would be richer in bacteria that contribute to cellulose degradation.
