It is generally accepted we have entered a period of unprecedented biodiversity loss, and insects account for a large proportion of biodiversity. The spectacular diversity of insects, but due to lack of professional knowledge and resources for taxonomic identification, has long hindered studies of the structure and functioning of the insect component of ecosystems. DNA metabarcoding achieves this goal that support large-scale bio-monitoring programmes of insect diversity. We amplify a 313 bp fragment of the barcoding region of the mitochondrial COI gene to track insect diversity.
