The goose is a member of the family Anatidae and is an economically important waterfowl with distinctive characters. Domesticated geese derive from the swan goose (Anser cygnoides) and the graylag goose (Anser anser), and approximately 6,000 years of artificial selection have led to significant alterations in their body size, reproductive performance, egg production, feather color, and other features. Currently, more than 181 domesticated breeds are reared globally to supply meat, eggs, and valuable byproducts (feathers, fatty liver) for human consumption
