RNA polymerase II, clamp domain

CATH-Gene3D entry

CATH-Gene3D typehomologous superfamily

Description
Imported from IPR044893

RNA polymerases catalyse the DNA-dependent polymerisation of RNA. Prokaryotes contain a single RNA polymerase compared to three in eukaryotes (not including mitochondrial and chloroplast polymerases). This clamp domain is a mobile domain involved in positioning the DNA, maintenance of the transcription bubble and positioning of the nascent RNA strand
