Description
Rfam model RF00080 describes a structured RNA element called the yybP-ykoY leader, or SraF, now called a manganese riboswitch. Gene encoding members of this protein family, which includes YjbE from Bacillus subtilis, often are proceeded by such an element. The family belongs to the family (see PF03741) of TerC (tellurium resistance C) homologs, suggesting a role in transport of, and resistance to excess concentrations of, manganese or other metal cations. Members of this highly hydrophobic protein family, regularly are found preceded by the yybP-ykoY manganese riboswitch (see RF00080). A metal cation transport function is proposed.
