Description

Gloeobacter violaceus PCC 7421 is a rod-shaped cyanobacterium isolated from calcareous rock in Switzerland. It is an obligate photoautotroph, but has no thylakoid membranes. sensitive to strong light and it has a relatively long generation time. This is the type strain.
