Getting data from Ensembl

You can export data from Ensembl in a number of ways. The appropriate method will depend upon the amount of data you wish you retrieve; small and medium sized datasets can be exported using the browser and BioMart while large and genome-wide datasets can be accessed programmatically and as bulk downloads:

• Export small amounts of data from the Ensembl browser
• Export data from Ensembl using BioMart
• Retrieve data programatically using the REST API
• Access Ensembl databases using the Perl API
• Access Ensembl databases via the public MySQL client
• Download complete databases as flat files from the FTP site
