Exploring a UniProtKB entry
Navigating within a UniProtKB entry
Information in a UniProtKB entry is structured into a number of sections to make it easy to find the data that you are looking for. For a quick overview of this section, please watch this short video on the right.
When viewing a UniProtKB entry, a series of tabs near the top of the entry show different display options, allowing you to move easily between them. When you open the entry, you are looking at the Entry View. The navigation bar on the left-hand side of the page lists the entry sections so you can easily jump to specific parts of a record just by clicking on the section heading (Click on in Figure 23).
Figure 23 The menu bar on the left-hand side of the entry shows the display options and entry sections.
Display options
The following display options are provided for each UniProtKB entry.
Entry | Full entry showing information which contributes to our understanding of protein function |
Variant viewer | Graphical representation of amino acid variants in the protein sequence including manually curated variants from the literature and imported data from external sources such as dbSNP and ClinVar |
Feature viewer | Graphical representation of all UniProtKB sequence features for the entry in an interactive display plus additional sequence features from large-scale projects |
Genomic coordinates | A mapping of exon coordinates for both the displayed sequence and isoforms to the underlying genomic sequnce |
Publications | Publications related to the entry sourced from UniProtKB curation as well as those computationally mapped from other sources |
External links | Cross references to resources and webpages giving additional information on the protein described in the entry |
History | A complete sequence and annotation history of the entry since it first appeared in UniProtKB/TrEMBL |
You can learn more about the display options and entry sections on the following pages.
