Case studies
AstraZeneca
The UX design team at AstraZeneca was asked to redesign and rebuild a clinical trials data analysis tool used by colleagues across the organisation and external collaborators. The primary goals of the project were to: 1) improve the usability of the tool by providing a more intuitive user interface that would support; and 2) reduce the need for training on how to use the system. To ensure that the redesigned tool fit into the existing workflow of users and was usable and intuitive, the team engaged with a third-party contractor throughout the design process.

Open Targets
Open Targets is an innovative, large-scale, multi-year, pre-competitive industry-academia partnership that uses human genetics and genomics data generated by its experimental and informatics programmes for systematic drug target identification and prioritisation. One of its flagship informatics products is the Open Targets Platform, an open-source, comprehensive research tool that integrates 20+ data sources to build and score associations between targets and diseases.
User experience design was a key feature in the development of the classic and next-generation versions of the Platform. The entire team was involved in the design process to ensure that the Platform helped researchers answer important questions in early-stage drug discovery.
