Summary for family I81

NameInhibitor family I81 (toxostatin family)
Family type peptidaseI81.001 - toxostatin-1 (Toxoplasma gondii) (Toxoplasma gondii), MEROPS Accession MER0152588 (inhibitor unit: 81-218)
Content of familyFamily I81 contains inhibitors of cysteine endopeptidases.
History Identifier created: MEROPS 8.4 (6 April 2009)
The pathogen Toxoplasma gondii infects numerous vertebrates including man. Toxostatins are endogenous inhibitors in the pathogen which regulate the activity of endogenous cysteine peptidases (Huang et al., 2009).
Peptidases inhibitedSeveral cysteine peptidases from family C1 are inhibited, but especially the TgCPL peptidase (C01.149) from Toxoplasma gondii.
