Family C24
Summary for family C24
Family type peptidase | C24.001 - rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 3C-like peptidase (rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus), MEROPS Accession MER0002136 (peptidase unit: 1109-1251) |
Content of family | Peptidase family C24 contains cysteine endopeptidases of single-stranded RNA viruses. |
History |
Identifier created: Perspect.Drug Discov.Des. 6:1-11 (1996)
|
Catalytic type | Cysteine |
Active site residues | H1135 D,E1152 C1212 |
Active site | Catalytic triad residues His1135, Asp1152 and Cys1212 (numbered as in the MEROPS alignment) have been identified by mutagenesis (Boniotti et al., 1994) and by similarity to other peptidases in subclan PA(C). |
Activities and specificities | The only substrate known for peptidases in family C24 is the viral polyprotein, which is cleaved in trans, and perhaps also in cis. The majority of the identified cleavage sites have Glu in P1, and the remainder, Gln. The P1" residue is commonly Gly (Myers et al., 2004). |
Molecular structure | The family includes some of the smallest peptidases in subclan PA(C), the rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus enzyme containing only about 142 residues. No tertiary structure has been reported. |
Clan | PA |
Subclan | PA(C) |
Basis of clan assignment | Active site residues for members of this family and family S1 occur in the same order in the sequence: H, D, C/S. |
