Family M84
Summary for family M84
Family type peptidase | M84.001 - MpriBi peptidase (Bacillus sp.) (Bacillus intermedius), MEROPS Accession MER0181727 (peptidase unit: 1-270) |
Content of family | Peptidase family M84 contains endopeptidases. |
History |
Identifier created: MEROPS 9.4 (31 January 2011) A secreted protein known as MprBi was characterized from the soil bacterium Bacillus intermedius and shown to be a metallopeptidase (Sabirova et al., 2010). |
Catalytic type | Metallo |
Active site residues | H222 E223 H226 H232 |
Active site | There is a conserved HEXXHXXGXXH motif in which the three histidines have been shown to be metal ligands and the glutamate to be a catalytic residue in other members of subclan MA(M). |
Activities and specificities | The only proteolytic activity reported is against azocasein (Sabirova et al., 2010). |
Inhibitors | Azocasein-cleaving activity is inhibited by metal chelators (Sabirova et al., 2010). |
Molecular structure | No tertiary structure has been solved. Family M84 is included in clan MA subclan MA(M) because of the presence of the HEXXHXXGXXH motif and sequence corresponding to the structural component known as a Met-turn (Sabirova et al., 2010). |
Clan | MA |
Subclan | MA(M) |
Basis of clan assignment | Predicted active site residues for members of this family and thermolysin, the type example for clan MA, occur in the motif HEXXH |
